The Department of Chemical Engineering is recruiting for an internal full-time faculty member to serve as the holder of the Joe and Essie Smith Endowed Chair in fundamental chemical engineering sciences.

Candidates must be an be an existing professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering who is early in their career but has already established their potential as a scholar. It is expected that the candidate will advance at least normally through the faculty ranks on the basis of their scholarly activities, teaching, University and public service.

A research position for a Post-Doctoral Researcher is immediately available at the McDonald- Nandi laboratory (http://mcdonald-nandi.ech.ucdavis.edu), Department of Chemical Engineering, University of California, Davis to work on the project entitled “Scalable Plant-Based Production of Affordable Protein Drugs”. This goal of this project is to transiently express, measure, and characterize recombinant Alpha 1 Antitrypsin (AAT) protein made in Nicotiana benthamiana.

The successful candidates should have outstanding and appropriate research experience and should provide evidence of effective and innovative research in the areas listed below.

The successful candidates will be outstanding educators and should provide evidence of effective and innovative teaching in chemical and/or biochemical engineering. In addition to teaching courses, candidates are expected to lead the development and assessment of a new Master of Engineering(MEng) program in chemical engineering.

This position will work on the project entitled “Growth, Viability, Stability, Purification, and Characterization of Ricecalli Expressing Recombinant Proteins.” The appointee will work under the supervision of Professors Somen Nandi and Karen McDonald as well as all members of McDonald-Nandi lab group in Department of Chemical Engineering, UC Davis.
