Job Opportunity: Joe and Essie Smith Endowed Chair

The Department of Chemical Engineering is recruiting for an internal full-time faculty member to serve as the holder of the Joe and Essie Smith Endowed Chair in fundamental chemical engineering sciences.

Candidates must be an be an existing professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering who is early in their career but has already established their potential as a scholar. It is expected that the candidate will advance at least normally through the faculty ranks on the basis of their scholarly activities, teaching, University and public service.

The holder will have the following responsibilities:

  • Engage in teaching and scholarly activities focused in the area of chemical engineering and materials science.
  •  Teach three courses a year in the undergraduate and graduate programs in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science.
  •  Conduct research in the area of fundamental chemical engineering sciences and perform service to the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science and the broader community in which it is situated.
  • Provide leadership in the area of chemical engineering and materials science and be fully engaged in activities in the Department of Chemical Engineering.
  • Enhance the academic and intellectual life of the campus as a whole.
